Here in Daytona Beach we have the Daytona Tortugas baseball team. Following the 2014 season, The Chicago Cubs concluded a 22-year relationship with Daytona Baseball and moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. Immediately following the announcement, the Cincinnati Reds jumped on the opportunity to move their Advanced-A club to Daytona Beach to play at historic Jackie Robinson Ballpark. 2015 marks the inaguaral season of Daytona Tortugas baseball. The new Tortugas mascot "Shelldon" can be found all over the ballpark and throughout the Volusia County community.
The stadium is located right in the heart of downtown Daytona Beach.
Ballpark Tour, Jackie Robinson ballpark got it's name in honor the great Jack Roosevelt "Jackie" Robinson. In March 17, 1946 Robinson played in the first integrated professional baseball game in history right here in Daytona Beach. There is a museum that consists of plaques along the Riverwalk on and off the field, detailing the accomplishments of Robinson and others throughout baseball's history.
The Jackie Robinson Museum is free to the public and open daily from 9am to 5pm. For more information, call (386) 257-3172.
